NEW ART, NEW ARTISTS MENTORING PROGRAM

The New Art New, Artist Program (NANA) is a unique program offered by the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, the Original.  We know how challenging it is for young people to embark on a career in the art world, so we created the NANA program to offer college students the experience of participating as an exhibiting artist in a major national art fair without incurring any of the costs. Students display and sell their work in a shared tent and are mentored by career art fair artists. The students gain a great deal of artistic exposure and experience firsthand what it’s like to be an arts entrepeneur.

Eight college artists are selected from a field of applicants through a jury process.  Applicants must be enrolled in a Michigan college at the time of application.

New Art New Artist Program Overview

• Waived booth fee ($650 booth and $100 electricity)
• Use of a shared 50 x 10 display tent provided by Street Art Fair
• Mentoring sessions with professional art fair artists
• Free 1-yr membership to the National Association of Independent Artists
• Listings in all the Street Art Fair’s publications, website and PR materials similar to other juried artists 
• Access to invitations, amenities, information and premiums are the same as every juried artist.

Participation Rules & Policies

The Ann Arbor Street Art Fair is a nationally recognized fine art fair that is highly selective. Participating artists’ booths will be visited periodically throughout the fair by the Jury Advisory Board to ensure compliance with the rules. Artists will be required to remove all work that is not in compliance.

1.    All work must be original, handcrafted work which complies with the media definitions listed below. One of a kind work is preferred and encouraged.

2.    No reproductions of original work are allowed.

3.    No commercial products are allowed.

4.    Artists may only show work in categories approved by the Jury.

5.    All work exhibited must be of the quality and type of that shown in the juried images. The AASAF reserves the right to ask an artist to remove work that does not meet this requirement.

6.    Artists must prominently display an Artist Statement, with the artist’s picture, describing how and by whom the work is made and the materials used to make the work.

7.    Artists must be present with their work for the entire four days of the Fair. All artists must check in at Registration upon arrival. Photo ID is required.

8.    All work must be for sale.

9.    If you produce work in editions, you must disclose edition numbers to the Fair audience and include in your work descriptions.

Media Categories

Mixed Media: 2D work which combines materials from two or more categories in one piece.

3D Mixed Media/Sculpture: 3D work done in any combination of materials.

Clay: Original clay and porcelain work, functional or sculptural.

Digital Art: Includes any original work in which the original image, or the manipulation of other source material, was executed by the artist using the computer. Work must be in editions, signed and numbered, on archival papers, inks, and emulsions.

Drawing: Work created using dry media including chalk, charcoal, pastels, pencil, wax, crayons, etc. or from a fluid medium of inks and washes applied by pen/brush.

Fiber: Includes leather, baskets, dolls, paper, and wearable art. No machine-tooled, machine-screen printing or other forms of mass production are accepted. Factory-produced wearable items, regardless of additional modification or enhancement by the artists, are not accepted.

Furniture: Furniture made from any material.

Glass: Functional and sculptural work is accepted. Kiln forming, blowing, molding or casting, as well as all cold working processes are permitted. 

Jewelry: Only those artists accepted in the jewelry category may display or sell jewelry. All jewelry, whether produced from metal, glass, clay, fiber, or other materials must apply in this category.

Metalsmithing: Sculptural or decorative work made from metal. No jewelry will be accepted in this category.

Painting: Acrylic, oil and watercolor paintings are accepted.

Photography: Includes artist’s original source material and is processed either by the artist or under his/her direct supervision. Work must be in editions, signed and numbered, on archival papers, inks, and emulsions. Photographs may not be printed on canvas.

Printmaking: Only hand pulled original prints are allowed. Prints must be in limited editions, signed and numbered.

Wood: Original works that are hand tooled, machine-worked, turned or carved.
